Diseases & Pests of Carrot, Celery, Parsnip & Lettuce
Carrot Rust Fly
Carrot rust fly causes substantial damage in carrot, parsnip, celery and parsley. The pest has two generations each year in Ontario. The insect overwinters in soil as a pupa. The larvae feed on the root hairs for up to 1 month before tunneling into the carrot. Adults are shiny and black with an orange head, brown eyes, and pale, yellow legs. The larva is cream white and legless with dark mouth hooks.
